What does an accountant do?

Many people think accountants just fill out a form at the end of the year and charge quite a bit of money for it, an accountant should do much more than that and whether you are a sole trader, have a limited company and everything else between, an accountant will be able to help you.

What will I gain?

An accountant will make sure you are registered with all the relevant government agencies that you need to be, they will be dealing with them on your behalf and keep up to date with any changes to your accounts or rules and regulations. They will be able to setup a new business for you and know the potholes and hazards along the way.

They will also have a great deal of knowledge on how best to finance your business and pay less tax, there are many legal ways that you can run your tax affairs and reduce the amount of tax that you would pay. Most accountants will also be able to give advice not just on tax questions but general advice on how to run your business or personal tax affairs.

What services should I get from them?

An accountant can file your year end tax return and will be making sure they have all the information they need from you, this often means they will provide you with bookkeeping software and give you advice on how to use it, they will be your lookout who knows when the deadlines are and what to do.

They will be able to run any VAT schemes you may require and also run payroll for your staff, yourself and be able to explain and use dividends for you, this helps you navigate these areas adhering to law and tax efficiently also.

Most accountants are available for consultations and you can get in contact with them for a whole range of tax and business related questions. An accountant will most likely be dealing with a wide range of different types of businesses, many which are successful and some not, this gives them a great deal of business knowledge for what to do and what not to do.
